Check out everything that’s happening in the world of Seven Fortunes.

Blending New Flavors in an Ancient Cup. Dubai may not immediately come to mind as one of the world’s foremost coffee capitals. But over the past five years, the local coffee scene has developed to the point where the city should be considered right up there with global coffee meccas like Melbourne, Seattle, and Portland, Ore., argues local entrepreneur Karim Hassan. “Dubai is definitely top five,” he says.

Humans of coffee: Reem Hassan. I was born in Dubai, raised in Dubai and Zurich. I’ve been in the UAE for a total of 19 years.

Initially Seven Fortunes stemmed from our love of coffee. While working our day jobs, fueling up on average coffee, we decided that it was time to pursue our passion and turn it into a reality. Instead of continuously dreaming of the perfect cup, we crafted one that you can taste, smell and hold in your hand.

Now, our philosophy stems from our spirit – always innovating, daring and pushing beyond limits. We know the process is the essence of Seven Fortunes that’s why we embrace mistakes as an opportunity to deliver a better product each time. We never stop, we keep evolving.

Entrepreneur Karim Hassan founded Seven Fortunes in March 2015 in Dubai at the age of 22 while working a day job. Following his passion project, he purchased a trade license and embarked on the journey of coffee roasting and café management. This young Egyptian business man is also an angel investor in media start ups and tech companies along with his coffee empire. His dream back in 2015 was to give back to his country and the decision to bring his business to Egypt was made in 2018.

He is now a pioneer in Egypt for introducing the specialty coffee industry with over 10 branches across Egypt, don’t forget to try his coffee, it’s not one to miss out on. Also, we cannot forget his impact in the UAE market which stands strong and where it all began! You will find Karim’s coffee among global brands such as St Regis, W hotel, Renaissance hotel, and Dusit hotels among others.

“…I’m proud to be the one to bring this record-breaking experience to Dubai. Who knows what the future will bring, but today this coffee is the highest scoring and best tasting coffee among the Global Specialty Coffee Grading System. This is not an opinionated taste, but a proven fact,” he said. Tickets for the experience are priced at $68 (AED250), including a 15 grams coffee sample, or $150 (AED550) including a 15 grams sample to brew at Seven Fortunes as well as 50 grams in beans. Both tickets allow for a plus one entry at no additional charge.Seven Fortunes Coffee Roasters imports beans from as far as Colombia, Nicaragua, Brazil, Costa Rica, Ethiopia and Guatemala and sells them to popular cafés, restaurants and boutique hotels in Dubai. It also produces them in smaller bags for retail.

Having recently launched their newest branch in Waterway, New Cairo, Seven Fortunes is arguably among the finest coffee brands you will come across in Egypt right now. We talked to Egyptian founder, Karim Hassan, who never offers a coffee to someone without drinking it with him. With that pace, he ends up drinking about ten cups a day, which is something we wouldn’t recommend but you get the picture of the passion and heart behind this exceptional brand.

Local and traditional coffee shops are rapidly transforming into modern outlets with a specific emphasis on ambience and customized service offerings.

The U.A.E. has been the fastest evolving coffee market in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). The number of cups of coffee consumed in the country has witnessed a substantial increase from 1.4 billion cups a day in 2012 to 3.4 billion cups a day in 2016. Dubai has accounted for a major share of the number of coffee outlets in the U.A.E., followed by Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.

Karim Hassan wears leopard print socks, loves Kendrick Lamar’s new album and drinks 10 coffees per day. The Johnny Depp look-a-like born in Toronto and raised in Dubai – has created Seven Fortunes, a coffee roastery in Al Quoz that employs science to create a cup of coffee. He imports beans from Colombia, Nicaragua, Brazil, Costa Rica, Ethiopia and Guatemala and sells them wholesale to a string of cafes in Dubai as well as producing small bags for the home.

What is Seven Fortunes? Seven Fortunes is a homegrown micro roast operation based in Dubai.

We travel the world to bring green coffee beans directly from Farmers of origin countries like Guatemala and Nicaragua. After selecting our specialty blend, we then bring the beans back to Dubai and roast the at our Al Quoz roastery.

We’re a small operation, very passionate about what we do, and love exploring all the different aspects of coffee culture. We do pop-ups at events around the city, selling bags of beans, and serving up delicious hot and cold specialty drinks.

My love for coffee started at university. I would spend many sleepless nights in the library with friends preparing for exams. Coffee was our partner in crime; we started looking for different tastes, exploring beans from different origins; and learning about special brewing methods. We became obsessed.

After graduation I worked in finances until I turned my passion into my profession and now I operate Seven Fortunes Coffee Roasters from a renovated warehouse in Al Quoz. I love the Chemex method for its tea-like quality. It makes for a particularly crisp and clean cup. It was invented in 1941 by German chemist Dr Peter Schlumbohn, who was a perfectionist. Nowadays, the Chemex method is the ultimate functional design piece that’s as convenient as it is trendy.
